I've just finished my second trimester at QANTM. And while it is tasking, im having the time of my life!
My artwork has continued to improve, and i've met heaps of other talented artists who have helped me along the way.
One thing that i've come to realization is that for a westerner, much like myself, working in japan as an animator is fruitless - it just wont happen.
I've returned to a more western cartoon style for myself, which i am really happy about, its working out great. The thing about anime, is that its just like katana making in japan - its a cultural tradition, only passed down through family. A practice which is not allowed to be done by outsiders.
In a country of xenophobics, the white man/woman has little chance of getting a job.
Also, another factor is, from the tutors and those who work in the industry i have spoken to - anime isnt profitable. It's something that the japanese people do, and is still not widely accepted in the US and Europe. So i've been advised, try and steer clear of producing anime, otherwise you end up with BEN10 - fuck i hate that show!.
but dont get me wrong, i LOVE watching japanese anime and reading manga. i do it several times a week. it's just trying to produce the stuff thats fruitless.
so yeah, thats my realization so far at uni. if you don't agree, thats fine, i dont care. but i've gotten this insight from people who have been out there and tried to do it. it just doesnt work.
look forward to work artwork.
Cheers, Gordy.

QANTM is an interesting place. It most certainly has very strong bonds with employers in the industry, and if you have the talent and the right work ethics, you'll most certainly land yourself a job.
Im doing animation, and i can say while a lot of people do fail often, its only because they are lazy. If you actually do what is expected, you'll pass with flying colours. A lot of the time other students leave assignments up until the last minute and they nearly always fall short. but overall the course has been very rewarding.
Im at the Brisbane Campus, what one were you planning on attending?
PS. for actually getting in to the course is the easiest part. As long as you tick the right boxes on whatever application form you are required to fill in, and are able to spell youre name (and promise you'll pay the tuition fees SOMEDAY) you'll get in for sure. I can tell you there are a lot of people in my course who have absolutely no talent at all, and i feel sorry for whoever is paying for the fruitless degree :S
